SEATTLE – Seattle U track & field and cross country have signed ten student athletes to its squad for the 2022-23 season, with five men and five women joining the Redhawks beginning in the fall of 2022.
"Our team and staff are excited about this incoming class," said Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. "Each student athlete is extremely talented in track and field and the classroom, while also being a great fit in our culture. We look forward to each one of them joining us and I know they can all do amazing things. We will be continuing to add to this class over the next several weeks and months."
Jamaari Jefferson was a three sport athlete at Marysville Pilchuck High School in Marysville, Washington, earning four varsity letters in track and field, three in basketball and one in football. On the track, Jefferson was named to the 2021-22 First Team 3A All-Wesco long jump, triple jump and 4x100m relay as well as First Team All-District One long jump, triple jump and 4x100m relay. At this year's WIAA State Meet, Jefferson placed third in the triple jump and 4x100m relay and fifth in the long jump.
Miguel Rosario, a senior at Hazen High School in Renton, Washington, earned four varsity letters in track and football. Primarily a sprinter, Rosario was 2019 team top newcomer, making a state championship appearance and is the 2022 team captain. He was a member of the Cascade Striders club team for five years, making appearances at the 2021 Nike nationals and numerous USATF nationals events. His sister, Mikaela Rosario, currently runs track at UC Irvine. At this year's WIAA State Meet, Rosario placed fourth in the 100m.
Zoe Tibbo joins the Redhawks from South Pasadena High School in South Pasadena, California. Competing in jumps, Tibbo earned first and second place at the 2021 CIF Los Angeles City Section Finals in long and triple jump, respectively. At this year's CIF-SS Division 3 Finals, Tibbo placed second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.
Julie Smith is a sprinter from San Luis Obispo High School in San Luis Obispo, California, earning four varsity letters in track and field and two in basketball. Smith started her high school career as a 2019 Second Team Central Coast Athletic Association member and the team's Rookie of the Year. She concluded her high school career as a member of the 2022 Central Coast Athletic Association First Team and earned her school's academic excellence award. At this year's CIF-CS Division 2 Championships, Smith placed third in the 400m.
Parker Wagnild, a senior at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu, Hawaii, joins Seattle U after a phenomenal high school career. The four year varsity cross country and track athlete holds the school record time in the 5k, 3k, three mile and two mile as well as the fastest 3k and 5k times in Hawaii during 2021. The three time state cross country medalist was the 2021 ILH 3k champion and Punahou Invitational winner. Wagnild was named cross country team MVP from 2018-2020, track team MVP in 2021 and was voted onto the 2019 cross country ILH First Team. At this year's HHSAA State Championships, Wagnild placed first in the 1500m and second in the 3000m.
Hezekiah Goodwin transfers to Seattle U from Pacific Lutheran University to pursue a Master's Degree in Sports Management. The native of Kent, Wash., was named to the cross country 2021 Second Team All-Northwest Conference (NWC) and is a three-time NWC weekly award winner. The cross country and track and field team captain, Goodwin holds the third all-time mark in the 800m at Pacific Lutheran. Goodwin claimed first place in the 800m and 3000m steeplechase at the 2022 NWC Championships.
Jocelyn Garcia joins the Redhawks from Albuquerque Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she earned five varsity letters in track and field, two in golf and one in wrestling. Apart of the New Mexico State 5A track and field championship teams in 2018 and 2019, Garcia is primarily a sprinter and spent the last six years as a member of the Albuquerque track club where she won 12 state individual titles.
Khalid Hirsi won't travel far after graduating from Cleveland High School in Seattle. The cross country/distance runner placed 14th in the cross country state meet this year and competed in spring track for the first time, recording some of the top times in school history the 1600m and 3200m.
Caitlyn O'Neil joins Seattle U from Cedarburg High School in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, where she earned four letters in cross country, three letters in track and one letter in soccer. A three-time first team all-conference in cross country, O'Neil was a 2021 conference champion in the 3200m and a three-time state qualifier. She was named cross country team MVP in 2018, 2020 and 2021 and currently holds the 1600m school record.
Jordan White becomes a member of SU after earning four varsity letters in basketball, cross country and track and field at Neah-Kah-Nie High School in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. The distance runner won state championships in the 800m and 1500m as well as earned All-State First Team in cross country and track and field all four years.
