ST GEORGE - Seattle U baseball has a big ninth inning to takedown the Trailblazers, 14-9, Saturday afternoon in Utah. The win also helped the Redhawks capture the series win over Dixie State.
The ballgame was a back-and-forth affair from the start. After the Redhawks jumped out to a two run lead in the top of the first, Dixie State responded with three unanswered over the next two and took the 3-2 lead.
Seattle U would stop the Trailblazer run in the top of the third when Aidan Welch scored on a passed ball to tie the game at three. DSU would quickly break the tie with two more runs in the bottom of the frame.
Three runs from SU in the fifth, paired with one from the Trailblazers had us dead locked once again. The Redhawks would finally pull ahead and put distance between them and their hosts when Connor O'Brien hit a solo homerun in the seventh inning. Taking a one run lead into the top of the ninth, the Redhawks erupted in crunch time. Matt Boissoneault got the party started with another solo shot, Seattle U would then score one on a bases loaded walk from Kyle Sherick. Trevor Antonson then dug in and unleashed on a bases clearing grand slam. Colin Curry would help bring in the final run of the inning to cap it off, as the Redhawks now led 14-6.
The Antonson grand slam was the second hit by the Redhawks this series, with Derek Gellos getting ahold of one in game one.
The Trailblazers would rally for three in the bottom half, but the Redhawks held on to pickup the 14-9 victory. The win also meant that Seattle U captured the series over Dixie State and finished the season going an even 3-3 against the Trailblazers.
Next up is a one game stop on Montlake, as the Redhakw square off with the Huskies on Tuesday, May 10. The game will have a 6 pm first pitch.
