SEATTLE - Seattle U track and field opened the 2022 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships at Husky Track in Seattle on Thursday. Redshirt junior Nicole Whittern was the highlight of day one, placing seventh overall in the javelin throw with a mark of 40.62m (133' 3"). The native of Everson, Wash., earned Second Team All-WAC honors for her efforts and was named to an All-WAC team for the third straight year.
Severe winds and rain plagued most of the early track events but four SU women qualified for the finals in the 1500m on Saturday after only one was projected. Junior Ellie Postma and freshman Lilianne Hargreaves earned automatic bids to the finals after finishing second and third in heat two at 4:45.36 and 4:45.82, while junior Marie-Therese Chahrouri and sophomore Grace Much placed tenth and 12th to claim the final at large spots.
Championship events pick up again at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow with the 110m hurdles in the decathlon, while field events begin at 12:15 p.m. with the men's long jump and track events at 4:30 p.m. with the men's 110m hurdles.
