MARICOPA, Ariz. - Seattle U women's golf travels to Maricopa, Arizona, on Monday to begin competition in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. The two-day event is scheduled to take place from April 4-5 on the 6,191 yards course with a par of 72 at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. Both days will feature shotgun starts, beginning at 7:30 a.m. pacific time.
Seattle U will compete against golfers from Boise State, Cal Baptist, Cal State Fullerton, Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Idaho, Long Beach State, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico State. Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Santa Clara, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, UTEP and the hosts, Wyoming. The team lineup consists of graduate student Keisha Lugito, senior Samantha Bruce, junior Azumi Arai and freshman Rivekka Jumagulova and Shayna Lu, while graduate student Vendela From competes as an individual.
The Redhawks enter this tournament after taking second out of 16 teams at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational. Graduate student Keisha Lugito (76-72-73) and freshman Rivekka Jumagulova (78-73-70) performed the best for SU over the three-day event, tying for fifth with a three-round total of five-over 221. Both were named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Co-Women's Golfers of the Week, for the week of March 9-15, due to this performance.
This will be the Redhawks 12th consecutive year attending the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic (not including the canceled 2020 event). During the 2021 event, Bruce was Seattle U's top performer. The Makati City, Philippines, native finished in sixth place with a three-round total of 216 (72-70-74) as the Redhawks took sixth out of 20 teams.
