SEATTLE - Seattle U women's tennis concluded its Western Athletic Conference (WAC) home cluster Sunday morning against Chicago State at the Amy Yee Tennis Center. Seattle U honored its five seniors Aranza Alvarez Sanabria, Hannah Grossman, Jade Lancaster, Jillian Rasmussen and Alisa Sabotic pre-match. Lancaster would seal the dual match victory for the Redhawks, 4-3, after winning the tiebreaker point on court six over Katarina Dukic. Seattle U improves to 1-1 in WAC play.
"What an amazing fight from all the women, especially Jade," said Head Coach Krisitna Hollander. "She showed so much character, discipline and the will to fight. Considering this was her first match back since the injury, I am extremely proud of the way she played today. They really took care of business and this is a great, memorable win for the seniors."
The Redhawks opened the match by claiming the doubles point. Freshman Mireia Fehr and Jade Quintana (2-6) dropped the first match against Katarina Drazic and Lizi Morgoshia but SU would go onto win the remaining two matches. Grossman and Rassmussen (6-3) paired for their first victory over Diana Borodina and Sofiya Sedovich, while freshman Liliya Dimova and Elena Kraleva (7-6) earned their second straight tiebreaker doubles victory over Katarina Dukic and Kristina Pukhaeva.
In singles play, Chicago State would claim the first three matches. Quintana (1-6, 3-6) fell to Borodina, while Grossman (2-6, 1-6) battled against Sedovich and Alvarez Sanabria (4-6, 2-6) dropped her match against Morgoshia. The Redhawks would then start their comeback as they claimed the last three matches to earn the 4-3 victory. Fehr (7-5, 6-3) earned her sixth victory of the season against Drazic, while Dimova (6-4, 6-4) earned victory number two against Pukhaeva and Lancaster (6-7, 6-4, 7-6) sealed the dual match victory in a hard fought three set match against Dukic.
