BELLEVUE - Seattle U baseball took down Washington, 6-2, Tuesday night at Bannerwood Park in battle of crosstown rivals.
Washington got on the board first, picking up a run in the first two innings of the ballgame. After holding the Huskies to a scoreless top half of the third, the Redhawks were able to break through in a big way in the bottom of the frame.
After the first three Redhawks reached in the inning, Matt Boissoneault hit a sacrifice fly that brought in SU's first run of the night. That was followed by an Aidan Welch double that scored two, giving the Redhawks the lead. Jackson Lind would score in the next at bat on a wild pitch and Connor O'Brien scored Welch on a sac fly to conclude the big six run inning.
After Tyler Chipman started the game, going three innings of two run ball, four other pitchers came in to shut down the Washington offense. Mason Hoover picked up his first win of the season, going 2 1/3 inning while giving up just two hits. Alex McBee and Kelan Scanlan combined to pitch 2 2/3 inning and Gabe Smith came in during the ninth to seal the victory.
Next up on the schedule is a two game series in an I-5 matchup with Portland starting on Friday, April 29. The Redhawks and Pilots already played once this season, with Portland getting the edge at home, 8-2, back on March 22. Friday's game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM first pitch at Bannerwood Park.
