DENVER, Colo. - Seattle U women's tennis freshman Liliya Dimova, Mireia Fehr and Elena Kraleva were named on the All-Tournament Team for their performances at the 2022 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament on Wednesday, following a vote by the eight head coaches who competed last week in Beaumont, Texas. Dimova pairs with Kraleva as one of the three doubles pairings, while Fehr and Kraleva both earn the honor for their play in singles.
"I am so proud of this group," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander. "They are true competitors and real fighters on the court. They have worked really hard all season long and getting a recofnition from the WAC is such a great honor."
The All-WAC Second Team doubles pairing was dominate from the first set of WAC play, finishing undefeated with seven consecutive victories. The Bulgarian duo defeated UTRGV's Barbara Martinez and Marjorie Souza, 6-4, to open the tournament and scraped out a tiebreaker point victory against Abilene Christian's Sylvia Viljoen and Allison Stewart (7-6 (7-5)). They would go on to dominate New Mexico State's top pairing of Chloe Gavino and Mingfang Zhu, 6-0, in the championship match.
Fehr made great strides in her freshman season, finishing the year on a five match win streak as the number one singles player in the lineup. The native of Pfaeffikon, Switzerland demonstrated her resilience in both of her tournament victories, defeating both UTRGV's Isabelle Bahr (0-6, 6-1, 6-3) and Abilene Christian's Maryjoe Crisologo (3-6, 6-4, 6-2) after dropping the first set.
Kraleva was named to both teams after missing a few months due to injury. In her first singles match since January 29, Kraleva sent the Redhawks to the semifinals with a victory over UTRGV's Barbara Martinez (7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 6-1) that broke the three all tie in the dual match. The Burgas, Bulgaria, native defeated Abliene Christian's Andrea Guerrero in identical sets of 6-2, 6-2, to help the Redhawks advance to the championship match.
The Redhawks enjoyed a historic WAC Tournament, making an appearance in the championship match for the first time in program history.
