EL MACERO, Calif. - Seattle U men's golf concluded its final tournament before the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships Wednesday, tying for eighth out of 14 teams. Senior Harrison Murphy was the top finisher for SU, tying for seventh overall in a career best performance of four-under 212 (71-74-67).
The Redhawks posted a team score of seven-over 871 with their best round 287 coming on the final day. They finished the event first in eagles (3) and tied for first in converted birdies (50). The three-day, 54-hole event took place at the El Macero Country Club in El Macero, Calif., on the 7,138 yards course with a par of 72.
Murphy posted a career low round of four-under 67 in the final round to move up 17 spots to conclude his highest overall finish. The native of McKinney, Tex., finished the event tied for third in par three scoring (one-under) and average (2.92).
"I am excited to see Harrison have such a fantastic week," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "I've always believed in his talent and it is great to see him hitting his stride at the right time."
Fellow senior Jack Rahon was the next best Redhawk, tying for 25th place overall with a three-round total of 218 (73-71-74). Rahon tied for fourth in par five scoring (eight-under) and average (4.33) and tied for tenth in made birdies (12). Freshman Liam Gill (72-74-74) finished in his second highest placement and posted a new season low round of 72 in the first round. Senior Nathan Cogswell (74-76-72) finished two strokes behind Gill, while sophomore Blake Kukula (77-75-77) finished with a three-round total of 229.
The Redhawks will begin postseason play at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada, with the WAC Championships from Apr. 29-May 1.
