Seattle U Tied For Second After Round One

Seattle U women's golf finished up round one play at the 2022 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships Monday, tying for second place as a team. The Redhawks posted a team score of 13-over 301 to tie with Sam Houston State, while the reigning championship, New Mexico State, sit atop the leader board with a stroke total of eight-over.

KERRVILLE, Texas - Seattle U women's golf finished up round one play at the 2022 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships Monday, tying for second place as a team. The Redhawks posted a team score of 13-over 301 to tie with Sam Houston State, while the reigning championship, New Mexico State, sit atop the leader board with a stroke total of eight-over. 

Senior Samantha Bruce and junior Azumi Arai led the way for the Redhawks, tying for sixth overall with a score of two-over 74. Bruce performed well in her first 18 holes, finishing tied for fourth in par four scoring (4.10) and tied for third in made pars (14). Arai also had a strong start to the conference tournament, finishing tied for fifth in par five scoring (4.75).

Finishing one stroke behind them, graduate student Keisha Lugito concluded the round tied for tenth. Lugito tied for third in par three scoring (3.00) and fifth in par five scoring (4.75). Freshman Annika Cruz and junior Megan Kelly round out the team score, posting one round totals of 78 and 81, respectively. 

Round two of the WAC Championships tees off on Tuesday, Apr. 19 at 6 a.m pacific time with the Redhawks being one of the last teams to start at 8:15 a.m.
