ST. GEORGE, Utah - Seattle U women's golf travels to St. George, Utah, on Thursday to begin competition in the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational, hosted by Southern Utah. The three day event is scheduled to take place from March 10-12 on the 5,914 yards course with a par of 72 at the Sunbrook Golf Club. All three days will feature shotgun starts, beginning at 8 a.m. pacific time.
Seattle U will compete against golfers from Arkansas State, CSUN, Cal State Bakersfield, Central Michigan, Dixie State, Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Oral Roberts, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Weber State and Youngstown State. The Redhawks will send graduate student Keisha Lugito, senior Samantha Bruce, junior Megan Kelly and freshman Shayna Lu and Rivekka Jumagulova.
Seattle U enters this tournament after finishing fourth out of 20 teams at the GCU Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona, last week. Bruce was the best Redhawk over the two-day event, tying for second place overall with a 2-under 214 (75-70-69). The Makati City, Philippines, native tied for second in par five scoring with 5-under and averaged 4.58, while also tying for fourth in made birdies with 11.
This is the second consecutive year Seattle U will make the trip to Sunbrook Golf Club. Bruce was also the top performer last season, finishing tied for 11th with a two-round total of 150 (77-73). It was scheduled to be a three round event but the final round was canceled due to poor weather conditions.
