FULLERTON, Calif. – The Seattle U Redhawks dropped two games to Pac-12 opponents on the final day of the Judi Garman Classic. The Redhawks fell 5-1 to #23 Arizona State in a game that was tied after four innings, then dropped one to Utah 9-0.
 
The Redhawks are 11-9 overall on the year heading into their home opener this upcoming week.
 
GAME ONE
 
Three pitchers saw the circle for Seattle U, all performing well. Izzy Dino allowed only two earned runs in 4.2 innings of work, picking up three strikeouts in the process. Naomi Chaidez threw 1.1 innings, with Grace Luderer finishing the game with a scoreless seventh, striking out two.
 
Madison Kahwaty had two hits in the game for the Redhawks, driving in a run in the first that kept the game tied for four innings. Jasmine Wehn singled in the seventh as the Redhawks tried to mount a rally, but was stranded. Tai Wilson also had a hit to extend her hit streak to six games.
 
GAME ONE SCORING
  • First Inning: Each team took advantage of errors on the first batters of the innings, making it 1-1 after one. Kahwaty had the RBI for the Redhawks on a one-out single.
  • Fifth Inning: Arizona State had five straight hits in the inning, scoring two runs to take back the lead at 3-1.
  • Sixth Inning: For the second straight inning, Arizona State managed a pair of runs, this time via a delayed steal and an RBI single.
 
GAME TWO
 
Utah jumped on the board quickly to take the lead against Seattle U. Luderer would come on in relief and pitch four innings for the Redhawks, striking out two. Chaidez also saw action in the circle, her third appearance in the last two days.
 
Wehn and Carley Nance had hits for the Redhawks in the game. That gave Wehn a three-game hit streak and hits in four of the last five games.
 
GAME TWO SCORING
  • First Inning: Utah struck early, scoring four runs in the first five batters of the game.
  • Second Inning: The Utes scraped another run across in the second on a bases-loaded walk but the Redhawks limited the damage to one, making it 5-0.
  • Third Inning: Utah added another run on a groundout to extend the lead.
  • Fourth Inning: A two-run home run by Utah made it 8-0.
  • Fifth Inning: The final run of the game would come on an RBI single by Utah.
     
NOTES
  • Wilson (1x6, R) saw her hitting streak end after six games.
  • Kahwaty (2x5) is hitting .556 over the last three games.
Seattle U's home opener is coming up next as the Redhawks host Robert Morris for a doubleheader on March 9, beginning at 3:00 pm PT.
