FULLERTON, Calif. – One swing of the bat made all the difference, as the Seattle U Redhawks beat Penn 5-1 on the first day of the Judi Garman Classic. Carley Nance was a part of all five runs for the Redhawks, hitting a grand slam in the fifth and doubling in the seventh.

The Redhawks were hitless through the first four innings before Taylor DeDen's infield single with one out in the fifth. That would start a rally that burst wide open on Carley Nance's fourth career grand slam, coming with two outs.

Stefanie Madrigal took over on the mound in the first inning, facing a bases-loaded situation. She escaped that with ease and would shut out Penn in her 6.1 innings of work. Madrigal would allow only four baserunners to reach scoring position in the game.

SCORING
  • First Inning: A series of walks helped Penn get on the board, leading 1-0 after the first.
  • Fifth Inning: The Redhawks would load the bases with two outs, with Nance's grand slam changing the game and putting Seattle U up 4-1.
  • Seventh Inning: Nance was again integral to the offense, ripping a double. Hannah Sasaki, who pinch ran, would come around to score on Kalyn Hill's single.
