SEATTLE - Seattle U baseball dropped ame three and the series to Dixie State, 9-11, in extra innings Sunday afternoon at Bannerwood Park.
The loss meant the Redhawks dropped their first WAC series of the season after winning the previous two 2-1.
The Redhawks came out aggressive in the batters box. Seattle U was able to load the bases in the bottom of the first with only one out when Matt Boissoneault hit a single that drove in two runs. Derek Gellos would then score on a wild pitch to make it a 3-0 game. Back-to-back RBI's by Julian Kodama Grant Heiser brought in two more as the Redhawks were up 5-0.
After a scoreless 2nd inning, Dixie State broke through with three runs of their own in the top of the third to cut it to a 5-3 differential.
Starting on the mound for the Redhawks was Nestor German. The righty went five innings, giving up three runs on three hits while throwing 75 pitches.
Seattle U would pull away once again after scoring one run in both the sixth and seventh inning, on an RBI from Shane Jamison and solo home run from Grant Heiser.
The Trailblazers would storm back to take their first lead of the game after a big 6-run top of the 8th.
Trailing 7-9 with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning, the Redhawks had Boissoneault standing at second with Kyle Sherick stepping into the box. Sherick would proceed to hit a home run down the right field line that just stayed fair to send the game into extras.
Seattle U couldn't recapture the magic that they had in the bottom of the ninth, as they were held scoreless in extras. Dixie State would cross 2 in the top of the 12th to eventually win the game with a final score of, 11-9.
The loss gave Seattle U their first conference series loss and dropped them to 1-2 in extra inning games.
Next up is a one game matchup with Southern California on Wednesday, March 30 in Los Angeles before a three game series with California Baptist over the weekend. First pitch between the Trojans and Redhawks is set for 6:00 PM PT at Deeaux Field.
