SEATTLE - Seattle U baseball took the lead early and continued to build on it in a dominant win over Dixie State, 13-6, Friday night at Bannerwood Park.
The Redhawks jumped all over the Trailblazers in the bottom of the first inning as they put up four runs in the opening frame. Julian Kodama got the scoring going with an rbi triple that brought home Gavin Rork. That was followed by an rbi single by Shane Jamison and and a 2-run homerun by Matt Boissoneault.
Dixie State cut the SU lead in half in the second inning just for the Redhawks to quickly build the advantage back up to four in the fourth. Rork scored again, while Shane Jamison's double brought in the other run to put Seattle U up 6-2.
Getting his seventh start of the season on the mound was Peter Chronowski. The lefty put in a six inning effort, giving up just two earned runs on 101 pitches while picking up his second win on the year.
Seattle U would shut the door on a late game rally by the Trailblazers in the top of the ninth to eventually get the win, 13-6. The win improved the Redhawks to 7-12 on the season, 5-2 in conference play and 4-1 at home.
Game two of the series is set for tomorrow, March 25 at Bannerwood Park. Brady Liddle is scheduled to get the start for SU with first pitch coming at 2:00 PM.
