SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Seattle U women's tennis finished its final road trip before Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play on Monday against Santa Clara at the Mustang Tennis Complex in San Luis Obispo, California. The Broncos got off to a hot start and never cooled off, winning 4-0 in a shortened match.
Santa Clara started the match by claiming the doubles point. Senior Aranza Alvarez Sanabria paired with freshman Liliya Dimova (3-6) against Jenna Marie Gordon and Katherine Petty, while senior Jade Lancaster and junior Hannah Grossman (1-6) teamed up against Finley Kalinic and Velizara Fileva. The remaining doubles match went unfinished as the Broncos had already won the point.
In singles play, freshman Jade Quintana (1-6, 4-6) faced off against Fileva, while Alvarez Sanabria (4-6, 0-6) battled against Giulia Hayer and senior Jillian Rasmussen fell in identical sets of 0-6, 0-6, to opponent Varya Zlotnik. All three of the remaining singles matches saw the Redhawks take the first set but went unfinished because Santa Clara had already clinched the victory.
The Redhawks open WAC play in Seattle on Apr. 1 with Grand Canyon at 2 p.m. and conclude their WAC cluster with senior day on Apr. 3 against Chicago State at 9 a.m. Both matches will be played at the Seattle University Tennis Courts.
