SEATTLE – A furious fourth-quarter push by the Seattle U Redhawks came just short, with the Redhawks dropping a 59-64 game to Grand Canyon. Seattle U pushed it within one point with 40 seconds left in the game and had two possessions inside 30 seconds with a chance to tie but the final bucket eluded the Redhawks.
Bree Calhoun erupted late, scoring 11 in the fourth quarter en route to a 17-point outing. She would score the final nine points for the Redhawks, hitting a three-pointer after a fourth offensive rebound, then making all six free throws after two fouled long balls.
Georgia Kehoe had ten points and seven rebounds in a well-rounded performance down low. She grabbed four offensive rebounds, her second-most this season, and missed just two shots from the field.
Seattle U changed the game quickly after a track-meet first quarter. Grand Canyon's Amara Graham had 14 points in the first quarter, then was held off the scoreboard the rest of the way as Seattle U hounded her into 0-for-7 shooting and three turnovers the rest of the way.
Irena Korolenko made her first start of the season, scoring eight points in total, including six points in the first quarter. Courtney Murphy had her usual big quarter, scoring seven in the first and nine overall.
The Redhawks have one more at home this week, hosting New Mexico State on Saturday, February 5 at 2:00 pm PT.
