SEATTLE – The Seattle U Redhawks came up short in a game of runs, falling 61-67 to the Utah Valley Wolverines. A late 8-2 run with under five minutes to play by Utah Valley broke the tie, with late free throws locking up the game.
Seattle U held the lead early in the fourth quarter after a 9-2 run that carried over from the third. That gave Seattle U a 56-55 lead. Unfortunately, the Redhawks made just two field goals the rest of the way.
Barbara Rangel was big for the Redhawks, setting the tone in what became a 22-point third quarter. Rangel would end the day with eight points total as well as five rebounds and a block.
"Barb gave our team a huge lift on both ends of the floor," said Suzy Barcomb. "This was by far one of her best games in a Redhawk uniform."
Hailey Vice-Neat shined defensively with a career-high five blocks. The five blocks were tied for the most by a Redhawk this season and was just the seventh 5+ block game by a Redhawk ever. Only Taelor Ross, with six against UMKC in 2015, has recorded more blocks in a single game in Seattle U Division I history.
Courtney Murphy had 14 points for the Redhawks, making four three pointers. That gave Murphy 11 threes in the last four games: she is shooting 48% from deep in that time.
Bree Calhoun had 11 points and six assists, including four assists in the second quarter alone. Taliyah Clark had eight points, all coming in the second quarter during a 13-1 Seattle U run. Rangel also had a big quarter, scoring six of her eight points in the third.
Seattle U's final home game of the season will be against Dixie State on Saturday, February 26 at 2:00 pm PT.
