La Jolla - Despite a quick start by the offense, a late game rally dooms the Redhawks as they fall to UC San Diego on opening day by a final score of 7-8.

Seattle U (0-1) jumped out to a quick lead in the game. Shane Jamison and Derek Gellos both drove in a run in the first inning, and after the Tritons got one back in the bottom of the first, Gavin Rork hit a solo homerun in the second as the Redhawks were up 3-1.

Getting the start on the mound for the Redhawks was Nestor German. The sophomore went five innings, giving up just two hits and one run while striking out two.

The SU bats would eventually cool off as they were held scoreless over the next five innings, only getting two hits over that span. The defense would stand tall though, as the Tritons weren't able to cut into the Redhawk lead.

The bats would come alive again in the sevent and eighth. After a throwing error scored Julian Kodama in the seventh, a two RBI triple down the right field line by Kyle Sherick and RBI single by Trevor Antonson in the eighth extended the SU lead to 7-3.

The Redhawks could not hold onto the lead however, as the Tritons would plate five unanswered runs in the final two innings to take the series opener by a final score of 8-7.

The opening series of 2022 will continue with a double-header set for tomorrow. Game one is set for a 1 PM first pitch with game two to follow 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
