FEB 19 GAME VERSUS CBU MOVED TO CLIMATE PLEDGE ARENA
On the eve of its would-be final game of the 2021-22 season at Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle U announced its Saturday, Feb. 19 showdown against California Baptist will now be contested in the Seattle Center facility. The game, originally scheduled to be played at the Redhawk Center, will keep its tip time of 1 p.m. The Feb. 19 match-up will mark the ninth time this season that the Redhawks will call Climate Pledge Arena its home court this season. Through seven games played to-date, Seattle U holds a 6-1 record. "We are very excited about the addition of another home game at Climate Pledge Arena," said Interim Head Coach Chris Victor. "We've loved playing there this season and extremely grateful for the opportunity. The show of support from the Seattle community has been incredible all season long, and is a big part of the success our program has been having this year."
ABOUT THE SERIES VS UTRGV
Seattle U and UTRGV, formerly known as Texas Pan American, have 17 previous meetings with the Redhawks holding a 12-5 edge in the series. The teams' two meetings during this regular season come just six days apart. The Redhawks claimed a 67-59 win at Climate Pledge Arena on Jan. 10. Cameron Tyson scored 13 points and Vasja Pandža added 11 in the win. The teams did not meet during the 2020-21 season due to travel issues caused by inclement weather in Texas. The Redhawks and Vaqueros split the home-and-home series in 2019-20, each winning on their home court. Prior to that, UTRGV had won both meetings in the 2018-29 season. Those wins Vaquero wins snapped a six-game Seattle U win streak in the series. In addition to regular-season meetings, the teams have met twice in the WAC Tournament with Seattle U claiming victory in both match-ups.
BEST FIRST SEASON AT THE HELM
As Interim Head Coach Chris Victor leads the Redhawks towards the program's 15th 20-win season, he looks to enter elite territory among Seattle U coaches who have achieved the feat in their first season. Just four other coaches in Seattle U history have reached or surpassed 20 wins in their first season at the helm:
- • John Castellani, 1956-57, 22-3 (took 24 games to reach 20 wins)
- • Vincent Cazzetta, 1958-59, 21-6 (took 25 games to reach 20 wins)
- • Bob Boyd , 1963-64, 22-6 (took 25 games to reach 20 wins)
- • Jim Hayford, 2017-18, 20-14 (took 32 games to reach 20 wins)
NEXT TO 1,000
While Riley Grigsby surpassed 1,000 career points on Jan. 28 versus Sam Houston, two more Redhawks have the milestone marker in eyesight. Cameron Tyson enters Seattle U's Feb. 16 game at UTRGV with 918 career points during his NCAA DI collegiate career. Darrion Trammell follows with 857 career points.
