KAHWATY KAH-WACKS
Madison Kahwaty had a record-breaking Redhawk debut. In her first game for Seattle U, Kahwaty tied the single-game hit record with four and set a new single-game doubles record with three, missing out on a fourth double when she tripled in her final at-bat. Kahwaty's four-hit game is the seventh in Seattle U history and first since Madison Cathcart's on April 24, 2021. Kahwaty's three doubles broke the school record, accomplished 15 times, last occuring on May 8, 2021, when Cathcart had two.
POWER BATS
Carley Nance and Madison Kahwaty each had two home runs on opening weekend, joining Madison Cathcart as the only Redhawks to homer multiple times on opening weekend in the last five years. Stretching back to last year, eight of Nance's last 11 at-bats have gone for extra bases, with five of those home runs. Nance has 10 RBI already this year, the most on opening weekend in Redhawk Division I history.
CARLEY WITH A K
In her first start of the year, Carley Nance struck out a career-best 12 batters, earning the win against Ball State. The 12 strikeouts were the third-most in Seattle U history. Only Shi Smith has struck out more batters in a single game, striking out 15 on February 21, 2020 and striking out 13 on February 7, 2020. Nance's game was the eighth double-digit strikeout game in Seattle U's Division I history.
STEALING IS GOOD
Olivia Viggiano had four steals in five attempts on opening weekend, giving her 42 steals in her career. That puts Viggiano just one steal away from tying Alyson Matriotti and Sarah Petosa for second in Seattle U history. Viggiano had two multi-steal games, giving her five such games in her career. These were Viggiano's first multi-steal games since February 15, 2020.
KALYN KRUSHES
In her first collegiate at-bat, Kalyn Hill homered for the Redhawks. Hill is the first true freshman to homer on opening day for the Redhawks since Jessica Ulrich did in 2010. Hill already has three extra-base hits in her first four career games, with hits in all four. Hill is one of four Redhawks to record hits in their first Seattle U at-bats this weekend, along with Madison Kahwaty, Amanda Morris, and Tai Wilson.
TOP OF THE ORDER, CREAM OF THE CROP
Seattle U has batted Tai Wilson, Olivia Viggiano, Madison Kahwaty, and Carley Nance 1-2-3-4 in all five games thus far. Those four players are hitting a combined .364/.476/.636 this season. Those four have scored 24 of Seattle U's 33 runs and driven in 18.
