Box Score
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Seattle U Redhawks kept the hot start going, winning two more games to go to 4-0 on the season. The Redhawks beat Bowling Green 10-1 in a six-inning run-rule victory, then beat Ball State 7-5 to finish off the day.

Seattle U has now scored 28 runs through the season's first four games. That is Seattle U's highest-scoring four-game start to a season since 2018, when the Redhawks scored 33 runs in the first four games.

Carley Nance drove in six runs across the two games as well as racking up a career-best 12 strikeouts in a complete-game win over Ball State. The 12 strikeouts by Nance were the fourth-most in Seattle U history and the most by anyone but Shi Smith, who had a 15-strikeout game and two 13-strikeout games.

GAME ONE

The heart of the order feasted against Bowling Green. The 2-3-4 hitters of Olivia Viggiano, Madison Kahwaty, and Nance were a combined 6-for-9, scoring seven runs and driving in seven. Both Nance and Kahwaty homered, with Nance's five RBI in the game matching her career high, set April 30, 2021.

Tai Wilson set the table atop the lineup once again, scoring two runs. Wilson has reached base safely to lead off the game in all of Seattle U's first three games of the season.

In the circle, Stefanie Madrigal was her regular self, striking out five in a complete game. Madrigal retired the final eight batters in order after Bowling Green scored its only run.

GAME ONE SCORING
  • First Inning: For the second day in a row, Nance went yard, driving in three runs.
  • Third Inning: It was a two-out rally for the Redhawks, who put five straight batters on base via three HBPs and RBI singles from Coleman and Milder.
  • Fourth Inning: The Redhawks added two more runs, courtesy of Viggiano and Nance, who both ripped RBi singles. Bowling Green would score on in the bottom half as well to make it 7-1.
  • Sixth Inning: Kahwaty's hot streak continued as the junior homered to drive in two more runs. That came on the heels of Viggiano's steal of second that allowed Wilson to score.
GAME TWO

Nance was everywhere in game two. The graduate student scored a run, drove in two, and struck out 12 in the circle to lead Seattle U to victory.

Viggiano also had a big day, with two hits, a walk, and two runs scored. Kalyn Hill and Lily Garcia both were perfect at the plate, going a combined 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

GAME TWO SCORING
  • First Inning: After walks by Viggiano and Nance, Coleman laced a double to the gap, scoring both.
  • Second Inning: The first two batters of the inning reached safely to start a rally. Jocelynn De La Cruz's groundout brought one run in, then Garcia's ground-rule double made it 4-0.
  • Fourth Inning: Ball State strung together its baserunners, getting two singles and a home run all in a row after putting just one runner on base through the first three innings. The Redhawks responded quickly, scoring three runs, including two on a Nance double.
  • Sixth Inning: Ball State got one back with an RBI double in the sixth, making it 7-4.
  • Seventh Inning: A solo home run by Ball State pulled it closer before Nance shut the door on the 7-5 win.

NOTES
  • Nance and Kahwaty join Madison Cathcart as the only Redhawks with multiple homers on opening weekend in the last five years.
  • Viggiano moved to fourth all-time in stolen bases, passing Cherise Silvan and Katie Petersen with her 41st.
  • Nance's nine RBI are the most by a Redhawk in the first four games of the season in the program's Division I history.

Seattle U finishes the weekend with one more game, against St. Thomas tomorrow at 9:30 am PT.
