BEAVERTON, Ore. - Seattle U women's tennis finished off its two day trip to Beaverton, Oregon, with its first victory of the 2022 dual season. Senior Aranza Alvarez Sanabria (6-3, 3-6, 6-0) clinched a Redhawks' 4-3 victory with her singles win over Mia Totah at the Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center.
"I am very proud our women today," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander. "They played their hardest, showed a lot of character and really earned the victory."
Seattle U started the match by claiming the doubles point. Freshman Liliya Dimova and Alvarez Sanabria (6-0) earned their second straight victory as a pairing over Emily Fowler and Mia Totah, while freshman Mireia Fehr and Jade Quintana (6-4) clinched the point by defeating Jessica Tsukiji and Alyssia Fossorier in a close match. Seniors Jillian Rasmussen and Hannah Grossman (1-6) round out doubles play as they teamed up against Dasee Carter and Ysabel Gonzalez Rico.
Singles play began with UCI's Fossorier being awarded the victory by default on court three against senior Alisa Sabotic, while Grossman (6-4, 6-1) dominated in her match against Shreya Pavani and Dimova (5-7, 4-6) matched up against Gonzalez Rico. Fehr (6-2, 7-6 (7-5)) earned her fifth singles win of the season over Tsukiji, while Quintana (6-2, 4-6, 4-6) fell to Fowler, tying the dual match at three. Alvarez Sanabria first singles victory of the season sends the Redhawks back to Seattle with the dual victory.
The Redhawks next match takes them back to Oregon as they head to Eugene on Saturday, February 19, to face off against Oregon at the Oregon Student Tennis Center.
