BEAUMONT, Tex. – The Seattle U Redhawks rode their defense and an impressive shooting display from deep to a 65-56 win on the road over the Lamar Cardinals. Courtney Murphy made five threes, her tenth career game with five or more threes, as the Redhawks shot 43% from long range.

This was Suzy Barcomb's 400th career win and 68th with the Redhawks.

"It was a terrific performance by Courtney today," said Barcomb of Murphy's hot shooting. "Bree [Calhoun] gave us a big spark off the bench once again as well. Just a huge win after a grueling road trip."

The defense was there from minute one, forcing three turnovers on Lamar's first four possessions. Seattle U did not allow Lamar to make a field goal until six minutes into the game, taking the lead four minutes in and never relinquishing it.

Seattle U trailed for just 1:04, with Lamar's only lead 2-0. A buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the first half from McKenzi Williams made it a 13-point lead for the Redhawks. Seattle U would maintain a double-digit lead for all but 20 seconds the rest of the way, including the entire third quarter.

"Lamar made a big run at us in the fourth, but we withstood the challenge," said Barcomb.

Murphy was the leading scorer for the Redhawks with 17 on 75% shooting, going 5-for-6 from three. Bree Calhoun had 16 points and eight assists, scoring or assisting on five of Seattle U's first six field goals to start strong. Williams hade two threes, scoring eight points total in the game, while Irena Korolenko had seven points in her fifth straight start.

Seattle U returns home to host UTRGV on Wednesday, February 16. The Redhawks will also have a road game next week, at California Baptist on Saturday, February 19.
