BEAVERTON, Ore. - Seattle U women's tennis competed in its first of two matches this weekend on Friday against Portland State at the Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center in Beaverton, Oregon. The Vikings got off to a hot start and never slowed down, winning 7-0 on their home courts.
Freshman Liliya Dimova and senior Aranza Alvarez Sanabria (6-4) claimed a doubles victory in their first match as a paring over Makoto O'Hara and Maddie Egan but PSU would go onto take the doubles point. Freshman Jade Quintana and Mireia Fehr (2-6) teamed up against Capu Sanoer and Nika Beukers, while seniors Hannah Grossman and Jillian Rasmussen (3-6) paired against Emily Rees and Majo Hernandez.
In singles play, Dimova (5-7, 4-6) and Grossman (6-7 (5-7), 4-6) were both close to claiming victories but eventually fell to Sanoner and Egan in their respective matches, while Quintana (2-6, 4-6) dropped her match against O'Hara and senior Alisa Sabotic (4-6, 0-6) made her season debut against Rees. Fehr fell to Beukers in identical sets of 4-6, 4-6, and Sanabria (4-6, 3-6) rounds out the singles matches as she faced off against Hernandez.
Seattle U concludes the weekend with UC Irvine tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center in Beaverton, Oregon.
