FOLLOW THE REDHAWKS

QUICK HITS

  • Seattle U concluded a tough two-game WAC road swing with a 79-64 loss at NM State, who have now won 31 straight WAC home games at their own Pan American Center.
  • This marked just the second time this season that the Redhawks have lost consecutive games. They have not lost more than two straight this season.
  • The loss moved the Redhawks to 17-6 on the season and 8-2 in the WAC, good for second place in the current league standings.
  • The 17-6 record through the season's first 23 games remains the best mark for a Seattle U team since the 1963-64 season. That team went 19-4 before losing a fifth time, and ultimately finished 22-6.
  • Darrion Trammell led the Redhawks with 26 points at NMSU, marking the eighth time this season that he has led the team in scoring.
  • Riley Grigsby added 10 points, but no other Redhawk reached double figures.

FEB 19 GAME VERSUS CBU MOVED TO CLIMATE PLEDGE ARENA
On the eve of its would-be final game of the 2021-22 season at Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle U announced its Saturday, Feb. 19 showdown against California Baptist will now be contested in the Seattle Center facility. The game, originally scheduled to be played at the Redhawk Center, will keep its tip time of 1 p.m. The Feb. 19 match-up will mark the ninth time this season that the Redhawks will call Climate Pledge Arena its home court this season. Through seven games played to-date, Seattle U holds a 6-1 record. "We are very excited about the addition of another home game at Climate Pledge Arena," said Interim Head Coach Chris Victor. "We've loved playing there this season and extremely grateful for the opportunity. The show of support from the Seattle community has been incredible all season long, and is a big part of the success our program has been having this year." The Redhawks have been storming through a history season, including a 9-4 non-conference mark and a 8-0 start to Western Athletic Conference play. A recent nine-game win streak was the longest such stretch since 2009 and they enter Thursday's 7 p.m. game at Climate Pledge against UTRGV riding a six-game home win streak.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS UTRGV
Seattle U and UTRGV, formerly known as Texas Pan American, have 16 previous meetings with the Redhawks holding a 11-5 edge in the series.  The teams did not meet during the 2020-21 season due to travel issues caused by inclement weather in Texas. The Redhawks and Vaqueros split the home-and-home series in 2019-20, each winning on their home court. Prior to that, UTRGV had won both meetings in the 2018-29 season. Those Vaquero wins snapped a six-game Seattle U win streak in the series. In addition to regular-season meetings, the teams have met twice in the WAC Tournament with Seattle U claiming victory in both match-ups.

TRAMMELL THE THIEF

  • Darrion Trammell has been ranked among the nation's best in steals this season, and is now swiping his way into the Seattle U record book.
  • With two stolen balls on Saturday at NM State, he hit 57 for the season, moving him into 8th in Seattle U's single-season record book.
  • Next on the list are Eric Briggs (1986-87) and Andre Lang (1992-93) in a tie for 6th with 63 steals.
  • Topping the Seattle U single-season steals list is Ray Brooks (1984-85) with 84.

TYSON FOR THREE

  • With 80 made threes through 23 games, Cameron Tyson is tied for 7th with Jarell Flora (2014-15) on Seattle U's single-season top-10 list for single season three pointers. Next on the list is Sterling Carter (2010-11) at No. 6 with 85 three pointers.
  • Isiah Umipig tops the list with 123 made threes during the 2014-15 season. Umipig is the only player to top 100 threes in a season, also holding the No. 2 spot with 106 from the 2013-14 season.
  • Tyson scored 23 points on Dec. 1 versus McNeese thanks to seven three pointers - the most 3s in a single game for a Redhawk since Matej Kavas drained 7-of-9 from deep against Detroit Mercy on Nov. 18, 2017.
  • Tyson had seven threes for a second time this season on Jan. 15 versus Dixie State.
  • His personal single-game record is 10, set last season while playing for University of Houston.
  • Seattle U's single-game record is nine, achieved twice, and last in 2005.

ABOUT THE STREAK

  • The Redhawks' nine-game win streak that ran from Dec. 22, 2021 through Jan. 29, 2022 was the longest streak since winning 10 straight from Jan 13, 2009 through Feb. 27, 2009.
  • The nine-game streak surpassed a six-game run earlier this season.
  • The nine-game stretch included four road wins. The Redhawks last had four road wins in a season in 2018-19, though just two of those came during WAC play.

GRIGSBY JOINS 1,000 POINT CLUB
Riley Grigsby's turnaround jumper at the 9:03 mark of the second half versus Sam Houston pushed him over the 1,000-point mark for his career. The last players to achieve the feat were Terrell Brown and Morgan Means, who both reached the milestone during the 2019-20 season. Grigsby became the fifth Seattle U player to reach the 1,000-point mark in the modern Division I era, joining Aaron Broussard, Brown, Means and Isiah Umipig as those who have achieved the feat.

VICTOR EARNS COACHING HONOR
After leading the Redhawks to a 3-0 record on the road last week, Interim Head Coach Chris Victor was selected as the Week 11 HoopDirt.com Division I Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. The weekly honor makes him eligible to receive the HoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2021-22 college basketball season. This is the seventh season that HoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs.
