FOLLOW THE REDHAWKS

QUICK HITS

  • Continuing to impress during a historic run through the 2021-22 season, Seattle U led nearly wire-to-wire in a 72-62 win at Abilene Christian Thursday night.
  • The win marked the sixth straight for the Redhawks as they moved to 14-4 on the season and 5-0 in the WAC. This marks the first-ever 5-0 start in the WAC in 10 seasons and, coupled with other results around the league, has Seattle U in sole possession of first place in the current WAC standings.
  • This marks the first time Seattle U has had 14 wins in its first 18 games since the 1968-69 season. That team was 14-4 before suffering its fifth loss.
  • The last Seattle U team to earn a better start to the year was the 1963-64 squad that began 16-4, stretched that to 19-4, and ultimately finished 22-6.
  • Cameron Tyson led a quartet of Redhawks scoring in double figures at ACU, finishing with a game-high 20 points.
  • Riley Grigsby added 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
  • Darrion Trammell finished with 14 points, including 10-of-12 from the charity stripe, six rebounds, five assists and four steals.
  • Kyree Brown added a career-high 12 points, including 10-of-13 from the free-throw line.
  • For the second straight game Seattle U earned 31 trips to the free-throw line, scoring 25 points from that mark.

SCHEDULE CHANGES
Due to COVID-19 issues within the program, Seattle U was forced to postpone its first two WAC games, originally scheduled for Dec. 30 (vs. NM State) and Jan. 2 (at California Baptist). Both games were rescheduled to take place Jan. 17 at California Baptist and Feb. 21 versus NM State.

EYING 1,000
Riley Grigsby's 15 points at Abilene Christian on Jan. 20 gives him 965 for his career. He now needs just 35 more points to join the Seattle U 1,000-point club. The last players to achieve the feat were Terrell Brown and Morgan Means, who both reached the milestone during the 2019-20 season.

TYSON FOR THREE

  • Cameron Tyson scored 23 points on Dec. 1 versus McNeese thanks to seven three pointers - the most 3s in a single game for a Redhawk since Matej Kavas drained 7-of-9 from deep against Detroit Mercy on Nov. 18, 2017.
  • Tyson had seven threes for a second time this season on Jan. 15 versus Dixie State.
  • His personal single-game record is 10, set last season while playing for University of Houston.
  • Seattle U's single-game record is nine, achieved twice, and last in 2005.
  • With 67 made threes through 18 games, and 13 regular-season games remaining, he sits just 8 threes shy of entering Seattle U's single-season top-10 list. Isiah Umipig tops the list with 123 made threes during the 2014-15 season.

This marks the first all-time meeting between Seattle U and Tarleton. The Texans are in their second year as a member of the WAC and the two teams were scheduled to play two games in Stephenville last season, but the games were canceled due to COVID health and safety protocols.
