FOLLOW THE REDHAWKS

QUICK HITS

  • Seattle U powered its way to a 44-26 halftime lead over Dixie State and held on for a 79-68 win over the Trailblazers on Saturday.
  • The win marked the fourth straight for the Redhawks as they moved to 12-4 on the season and 3-0 in the WAC. This marks the first-ever 3-0 start in the WAC in 10 seasons.
  • The Redhawks also improve to 11-1 at home and 6-0 at the Redhawk Center.
  • Cameron Tyson led all scorers with 25 points for the second consecutive game. He hit 7-of-11 from deep and finished 8-of-15 from the field.
  • Five total Redhawks scored in double figures. Joining Tyson were Emeka Udenyi (14 points), Darrion Trammell (13 points), Riley Grigsby (11 points) and Brandton Chatfield (10 points).

  • Udenyi added five rebounds and four assists to his 14 points.

FREE THROW STREAK
Darrion Trammell has hit 28 consecutive free throws over his past four games played. The sophomore guard last missed in his first attempt on Dec. 18 at Washington. He would hit four straight to conclude that game, and has gone 12-of-12, 8-of-8 and 4-of-4 in three games since.

SCHEDULE CHANGES
Due to COVID-19 issues within the program, Seattle U was forced to postpone its first two WAC games, originally scheduled for Dec. 30 (vs. NM State) and Jan. 2 (at California Baptist). Both games have been rescheduled to take place Jan. 17 at California Baptist and Feb. 21 versus NM State.

EYING 1,000
Riley Grigsby's 11 points versus Dixie State on Jan. 15 gives him 932 for his career. He now needs just 68 more points to join the Seattle U 1,000-point club. The last players to achieve the feat were Terrell Brown and Morgan Means, who both reached the milestone during the 2019-20 season.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
This marks just the ninth all-time meeting between Seattle U and California Baptist and the fourth and fifth as Division I members of the Western Athletic Conference. CBU holds a 5-3 lead in the all-time series.

The Redhawks won two of three meetings last season, all three coming in consecutive fashion at the tail end of the season. The teams played on back-to-back nights in Riverside with Seattle U winning 80-79 on Mar. 5, 2021, before CBU rallied to win 79-76 the following day. The split earned the teams a first-round match-up in the WAC Tournament as the fourth (CBU) and fifth (SU) seeds. Seattle U won big in the rubber match, 83-66, behind 27 points from Nate Robinson and 26 from Darrion Trammell.

The Lancers won both meetings in 2019-20, beginning with a 72-65 final at the accesso ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash., on Feb. 1, 2020. Then, in what would ultimately be the Redhawks final game of the season last year, CBU clinched an 88-87 overtime win in Riverside on Feb. 29. In 2018-19, the teams split the WAC home-and-home, each winning on their opponent's home court. The Lancers won the first meeting of 2018-19, 75-64, on Feb. 2, 2019 in the Redhawk Center. The Redhawks returned the favor on Feb. 28, 2019 in Riverside., Calif., with a 67-65 thrilling victory. Delante Jones hit the game-winner - his only field goal of the night - with seven seconds remaining to secure the Redhawk win.

The teams' only previous meeting came during the 1987-88 season at the Hawaii Loa Tournament in Kaneohe, Hawaii. The Lancers won that battle, 71-66, over Seattle U.
