GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Seattle U women's golf ended its regular season on a high note as it finished second out of 11 teams at the Bobcat Desert Classic, hosted by Montana State. The Redhawks posted a team score of 7-over 583, leading all teams in the event with 26 overall birdies. The two-day, 36 hole event took place at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz., on the 6,136 yards course with a par of 72.
Junior Samantha Bruce set a new program record for lowest score on a 36 hole event with her 1st place performance of 138 (69-69). She also lead the tournament in par four scoring with a stroke total of 3-under and was second overall in birdies with nine. This is Bruce's first individual win of the season, second consecutive top-10 finish and fourth straight top-20 finish.
Behind Bruce, was senior Keisha Lugito who finished in 15th place with two strong rounds of 74-73, while sophomore Azumi Arai (74-74) finished just one stroke behind her. The former record holder for lowest round on a 36 hole event, senior Kimberlee Tottori, finished with a two-round total of 150 (73-77), while fellow senior Vendela From rounds out the team score with a two-round total of 151 (74-77).
Four Redhawks also competed as individuals in this event with sophomore Megan Kelly leading that group. Kelly (75-70) finished tied for ninth place after a great second round, while senior Nicole Foster (74-75) also performed well, finishing in a tie for 23rd. Finishing one stroke behind her was fellow senior Krystal Hu (75-75) and rounding out the individual scores is senior Anne Transier who had a two-round total of 164 (81-83).
Seattle U's next event will be the WAC Golf Championships at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada, from Apr 19-21.
