FRESNO, Calif. – Seattle U men's golf completed its first tournament of the 2021 season on Tuesday, finishing tied for sixth out of nine teams at the Nick Watney Invitational in Fresno, Calif. Brigham Young University won the team title with a stroke total of 31-under, while LMU's Gavin Cohen and BYU's Carson Lundell tied for first place with a shot total of 13-under. The Redhawks posted a team score of 4-under 860, with their best team round of 283 coming on Monday.

"We were definitely knocking off a bit of rust," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "Most of the teams competing this week were able to have fall schedules which did not work in our favor because they were just a bit sharper than we were."

Junior Jack Rahon led the way for the Redhawks. After a slow start in round one, he steadily moved up the leader board, eventually finishing tied for 11th at 5-under 211 (74-69-68). Freshman Blake Kukula was just three strokes behind finishing with scores of 72-71-71. Sophomore Nathan Cogswell (72-70-73) showed great consistency, while Gabe Spach (76-73-72) made his return to the Redhawks after not competing in 2020. Rounding out the team was sophomore Will Koepke, finishing with a three-round total of 224 (75-74-75).

"Jack lead the way for us as he lead the entire field on par 5s, scoring at 11-under, and three guys finished a 54-hole event under par," Chandonnet said. "We are excited to evaluate, improve and move onto the next opportunity."

Seattle U looks forward to their next event in Palm Desert, Calif., at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, held from Feb. 19-21.
