SEATTLE - The Seattle U Redhawks welcomed six new members to the Redhawk family on signing day. Seattle U will welcome Sidney Love, Mya Moore, Sheridan Liggett, Noemie Bariteau, Makayla Moore, and Lisa Michaelsen to the team before the 2022-23 season.
Head Coach Suzy Barcomb was excited about the potential of these new Redhawks, saying that "these sensational six will have big shoes to fill from our graduating class, but they all are keen to make an impact on our program. We couldn't imagine our recruiting season going any better than it did. Our staff and returning players are thrilled to welcome these six new Redhawks."
Mya Moore comes to the Redhawks from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she helped Pius XI High School earned three straight regional championships as well as one sectional championship. She earned the Most Improved Award from the Lady Popes in 2019, then earned Team MVP in 2021 after averaging 16 PPG and 9 RPG. Moore earned a plethora of awards in her high school career, including All-Conference and All-State honors.
"Mya is a force in the paint with her back-to-basket and a threat from the perimeter, which fits perfectly with our system," said Barcomb. "She will be more than a post presence inside as she can score multiple ways. Defensively she is physical and will help us protect the paint. She is truly a hidden gem and we couldn't be more excited to welcome her to our Redhawk family."
A native of Holbaek, Denmark, Lisa Michaelsen has excelled on the international circuit, appearing with Denmark's U16 and U18 teams. During her club play with Hoersholm, Michaelsen took home a second-place finish nationally. She was twice named team MVP, earning those honors in 2019 and 2021. Her 2021 campaign was especially impressive: Michaelsen averaged 19 points and 15 rebounds, including a 30-point, 17-rebound performance to power a win over Falcon.
"Lisa adds size and depth to our post and power forward position," said Barcomb. "She will bring a wealth of international experience which will translate well onto the court at Seattle University. Long, agile, she runs the floor well, can post up a mismatch or stretch the floor as a trail and knock down the 3-ball. She has a very high basketball IQ, has played numerous styles of play and I think is a perfect fit with our program, athletically and academically.
A Texas native, Sidney Love brings a resume of defensive excellence at the point to Seattle U. She earned Defensive MVP honors during her high school career at Byron P. Steele, spending all four years with the varsity squad. Love has been an all-around contributor, averaging double-digit points as well as seven rebounds and eight assists per game. Love played her club basketball with Player First Basketball.
"Just like her last name, we love watching her play," said Barcomb. "She's an athletic point guard. Her vision on the floor is what drew us in. She has the ability to facilitate the floor like a general, but also provides great reads off the ball screens. I see Love providing a sense of calmness in the way she can control tempo. Love was the lone senior on a stacked AAU team with younger players and she was clearly the leader."
Makayla Moore will join the Redhawks from the Bay Area, coming out of San Jose, California. Moore has won Nike EYBL and Boo Williams championships in the last year, as well as leading Archbishop Mitty High School to the state championships. Her high school career has seen Moore earn CCS, NorCal, and California state-co-championships. She played AAU ball with Cal Stars 17U EYBL, helping the Cal Stars earn the nation's number-one ranking on the AAU circuit.
Barcomb was glowing about Moore's basketball intelligence, saying that "Makayla is a package of intellect and athlete on the floor. Playing for an elite high school and club program, she brings a wealth of experience, competitiveness and knowledge that will help her in the transition to Seattle University. We are excited about her versatility and can't wait to watch Makayla grow her game."
A high school teammate of Moore, Noemie Bariteau brings a winning pedigree to Seattle U. Along with Moore, Bariteau helped the Monarchs earned CCS championships twice, as well as a third CCS Finals appearance. Bariteau was a part of teams that earned the #1 ranking in CCS and #2 ranking in the nation. She came up big in the biggest games: in the 2020 CCS playoffs, Bariteau had 14 points and three steals, and in the 2021 CCS Final she poured in 11 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Bariteau played club ball with the San Jose Cagers.
"Noemie is an exceptionally high IQ point guard," said Barcomb. "Her physicality and aggressive nature will set the tone for us defensively while her decision making and passing skills will fit nicely with our offense. Playing for an elite HS has enabled Noemie to compete against high level talent every day. Her work ethic is unmatched. She has a maturity in her game that will transition well."
Sheridan Liggett heads west from her native Utah to join the Redhawks. The combo guard has earned All-Valley and All-State honors during her playing career at Maple Mountain High School. In 2020, she was named the Athlete of the Year at Maple Mountain. She has averaged double-digit points every year of her varsity career to go along with 5+ RPG and 1+ SPG.
"Sheridan is a dynamic athlete that can score at all three levels," said Barcomb about the guard. "She plays both sides of the ball with grit and determination, surely to be contagious to those wearing the red and black. She has the ability to set up her teammates and shares the ball very well. An excellent student in the classroom, she is a tremendous young lady who we can't wait to get on campus."
