QUICK HITS

  • The Redhawks christened the basketball court at Climate Pledge Arena with a big 77-51 win over Idaho State on Homecoming Sunday.
  • Riley Grigsby poured in a career-high 30 points on 11-of-21 FGs and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Cameron Tyson added 18 points and the Redhawks shot better than 65% from the field in the second half, snapping a 25-25 tie in the runaway victory.
  • The game was the first ever basketball game to be played at the brand new Climate Pledge Arena.
  • Seattle U finished a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line as Grigsby and Tyson each went 5-for-5 on the night.
  • Viktor Rajković and Brandton Chatfield made their first starts of the season versus Idaho State after both turning in strong performances two days prior at Washington State.
  • Ten total Redhawks scored in the game and 14 saw action with the win firmly in hand.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS MORGAN STATE
This marks the first all-time meeting between Seattle U and Morgan State.

RETURNING CORE
The 2021-22 Redhawks return 13 total letterwinners, including all five starters from last year's team that went 12-11 overall and reached the WAC Tournament semifinals. The 13 letterwinners returning leads all teams in the WAC. Seattle U is one of two teams in the league to return all five starters. Tarleton State also returns it's starting five.

FAMILY TIES
New additions to the Redhawk team and staff have brought multiple family connections to the program. Cameron Tyson, a redshirt sophomore transfer from University of Houston, is joined by older brother D'Marques Tyson, who is an Assistant Coach on staff. Junior Riley Grigsby is joined by his father Al Grigsby, who is on staff as Assistant to the Head Coach.

CITY IN SYNC
The 2021-22 Seattle U squad features four players hailing from City College of San Francisco - Darrion TrammellNate RobinsonEmeka Udenyi and Kyree Brown. Trammell, Robinson and Udenyi joined the Redhawk squad for the 2020-21 season and Brown made it a foursome this year. The quartet let the 2019-20 CCSF Rams to a 30-0 season before the season was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

NETTLES FOR THREE
Aaron Nettles enters his final season as a Redhawk with 110 career three pointers. He sits just 19 three's shy of staking a claim in the Seattle U all-time top-10 list. Bernard Seals (2002-06) currently holds the No. 10 spot with 129 career triples.

REDHAWK RUNDOWN

  • Viktor Rajković came up two rebounds shy of a double-double in a breakout performance at Washington State on Nov. 14. After missing all of last season with a knee injury, he finished with 10 points and eight boards, including six on the offensive end.
  • Seattle U won its third straight season opener on Nov. 10 as Cameron Tyson drained a three with 0.8 seconds remaining, lifting the Redhawks to a 69-66 final over visiting Alcorn State.
  • Cameron Tyson finished with 17 points, including five threes, while Darrion Trammell added 17 points and seven assists. Riley Grigsby chipped in 11 points and Kyree Brown added nine off the bench.
  • Interim Head Coach Chris Victor earned his first NCAA Division I victory in the win over Alcorn State. Victor has 104 career wins as a head coach, previously leading Citrus College from 2010-15.
  • Seattle U returns to the heart of Seattle with eight of its 19 home games to be contested in the brand new Climate Pledge Arena. The Redhawks played nine seasons under the roof of Climate Pledge Arena's former moniker - KeyArena - before the building went under construction following the 2017-18 season.
  • Seattle U returns 92.3% of its points from a season ago, the 18th most among all teams across the nation.
  • The Redhawks also rank 18th in returning minutes, as 89.7% of all minutes played a season ago were in the hands of the 13 letterwinners back on the team this winter.
  • Assistant Coach D'Marques Tyson has earned the distinction of being the youngest assistant coach in all of Division I men's basketball this season. The Bothell, Wash., native who played four seasons at the University of Portland, was born Dec. 18, 1995. He is one of two assistant coaches to be just 25 years of age to begin this season. Tyson is younger than Tyler Wilson of Manhattan College by just 15 days.

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
Seattle U has compiled a 249-156 (.617) record in the Redhawk Center, including a 15-game winning streak that began Nov. 5, 2008 with a perfect 10-0 mark during the 2008-09 season. In 2017-18, the Redhawks went 9-1, in 2018-19, the Redhawks went 12-6 and in 2019-20 they were 9-3. In 2020-21, the Redhawks went 6-3.
