SEATTLE - Seattle University men's soccer advanced to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament final Friday after James Morris scored in the final minute to give the Redhawks a 4-3 victory over Air Force. Levonte Johnson, Noe Meza and Hal Uderitz all scored in the WAC Tournament semifinal match at GCU Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona.
"I couldn't be more proud of our guys, what a game," said Head Coach Pete Fewing, "Our guys never quit and I just had a feeling this game wasn't over at three-two. The guys that came in off the bench did great and provided a lot of energy. We look forward to getting another chance against Grand Canyon."
Seattle U dominated the first 45 minutes of this game as they outshot Air Force, 12-3, and held a 6-0 advantage in corners. Hal Uderitz opened up the scoring in this match, converting a penalty in the 24th minute after Morris was taken down in the box. Noe Meza doubled the lead in the 34th minute with a strong header to the far post, coming off a great corner kick from Peter Kingston.
In the second half, The Falcons came out with a purpose as they scored three goals in a seven minute span. However, the Redhawks wouldn't go away easy as Levonte Johnson powered his way through the middle of the field and fired a shot that beat the keeper to the far post in the 87 minute. James Morris sent the Redhawks home with the victory, scoring with 17 seconds left as a lose ball found his feet off a SU corner.
The final margin in shots was 27-8 in the favor of the Redhawks who also held the advantage on corner kicks at 11-3.
Seattle U moves on to face top-seeded Grand Canyon Sunday at 12 p.m. PT for the WAC Tournament Championship.
