SEATTLE – Darian Goins had her fourth double-double of the year as the Seattle U Redhawks were defeated by Grand Canyon 17-25, 15-25, 15-25 in the penultimate home game of the year.
The Redhawks recorded 12 blocks as a team, their third straight match with double-digit blocks. Azzia MacDonald led the way, setting a new career high with six blocks. Sam Hayward also set a new career high, recording five blocks, including one solo block. It was the second straight match in which Hayward has recorded a solo block and her third straight match with multiple total blocks.
All told, five different Redhawks recorded multiple blocks in the match. Goins was the only Redhawk with double-digit digs, ending with ten, while Kylie Waters was close behind with nine and Kailee Kurokawa with eight. Goins had 11 assists to complete her double-double.
Sierra Bartley started the day spotless, going without an error in 11 attacks in the first set. She would end the day with seven kills, leading the team. Hayward and Sofia Sanchez each had six kills.
The Redhawks will honor their senior class in the final home match of the season next, with Senior Day set for Saturday, October 30 at 3:00 pm against New Mexico State.
