PHOENIX, Ariz. – Sofia Sanchez had her first double-digit kill match of the year as the Seattle U Redhawks dropped a road match to Grand Canyon 21-25, 25-27, 20-25. Sanchez had ten kills to go along with seven digs, both good for second on the team.
Ezgi Ozkan had 11 assists and three blocks, giving her 11 blocks in the last three matches. Eve Kerschenbaum led the Redhawks in kills with 13, her second straight double-digit kill day.
Katlyn Sipes reached 150 digs for the season with her sixth consecutive double-digit dig game, picking up 16. Darian Goins had 19 assists, just falling short of her seventh 20-assist match of the season.
Seattle U and Grand Canyon played three nail-biter sets, with set two and three both reaching 20-19 scores. The Redhawks fought off two set points in a row in set two, with Sierra Bartley's block tying the game up at 24-24. Grand Canyon would finish set two and three on 3-1 and 5-1 runs as Seattle U's comebacks fell just short.
The Redhawks return home next week for two matches, against Utah Valley on Thursday, October 7 and against Dixie State on Saturday, October 9.
