SEATTLE – The Seattle U Redhawks came out firing but took the three-set loss to the California Baptist Lancers 27-29, 21-25, 19-25 Saturday. Sierra Bartley and Sofia Sanchez were the team leaders in kills once again, with 13 and 11, respectively.
The Redhawks led in every set, including a back-and-forth battle in set one that saw the teams combine to fight off seven set points. Darian Goins would have ten assists in that set alone, ending the day with 19, along with a service ace and three digs.
Kyle Waters led the way in what was a strong team effort defensively, making ten digs. Sanchez, Katlyn Sipes, and Kailee Kurokawa all had four or more digs, with eight different Redhawks recording multiple digs in the match.
Lauren McCabe had four blocks in the match, her seventh multi-block game this season and third of four or more. Since going without a block against Oklahoma, McCabe has 30 blocks in 11 matches.
It's back on the road next week, with Seattle U headed to Texas to take on UTRGV and Lamar. The Redhawks will play UTRGV at Lamar on Friday, October 22 at 11:00 am PT, then play Lamar on Saturday, October 23 at 8:00 am PT.
