OREM, Utah – Seattle University men's soccer won, 2-1, at Utah Valley Saturday night. Declan McGlynn and Levonte Johnson both scored in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) game at Clyde Field.

"It was a great win for us," said SU Coach Pete Fewing. "We scored two great goals and Akili came up with some big saves. Utah Valley is a good team and to win here is a good win. It was important for us to bounce back after a disappointing result on Thursday."

SU put together several moments of brilliance in the first half, led by Johnson and Akili Kasim. In the 12th minute, Johnson made a run down the left flank and then crossed to James Morris, who one-touched a diagonal pass to McGlynn. The junior coolly beat the UVU goalkeeper from five yards out for a 1-0 margin.

The hosts got a forward behind the SU defense a few minutes later, but Kasim cut down the angle on the left side and denied a clean look to keep UVU scoreless.

In the 24th minute, Johnson took a pass near midfield and zig-zagged his way through and around three Wolverines and then scored on the Utah Valley keeper to make it 2-0 midway through the first.

The hosts struck for a goal in the 67th minute, as a cross went off the head of a Redhawk defender and into the back of the net to halve the margin.

Utah Valley held possession down the stretch and tested the Redhawk defense, but SU answered all questions and refrained from allowing a Wolverine equalizer.

Kasim notched three saves on the night.

Seattle U will host Air Force in its next WAC match on Saturday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Championship Field.
