DURHAM, N.C. – Alex Acton-Petronotis scored in the 106th minute to lift Seattle University men's soccer to a 1-0 win at No. 24 Duke on Monday. The Redhawks took down a nationally-ranked foe at Koskinen Stadium.

After a chaotic first 100 minutes without a goal, the Redhawks looked for a game-winner. Midway through the second OT period, Acton-Petronotis carried the ball down the right side and then sent the ball ahead down the sideline, where he picked back up and then dished to James Morris. Morris ran and passed back to his right as Acton-Petronotis sprinted in. He beat the Duke goalkeeper to the far post and sent SU into celebration in Durham.

"It was a tremendous team win over a great program," said Coach Pete Fewing. "We showed a lot of resolve and grit after a tough loss on Thursday. We used a lot of players tonight and everyone contributed. Akili Kasim was terrific in goal and Alex found a great way to celebrate his birthday with a great goal."

The teams spent the early portion of the game settling in. Declan McGlynn hustled his way into a good opportunity midway through the frame, while Akili Kasim was solid in net on the other end. Kasim made four first-half saves as SU (3-1-0) kept more dangerous chances away from the goalkeeper.

The hosts had a strong chance midway through the second half, but Kasim made a save and then Duke shot wide on the rebound attempt. A few minutes later, Noe Meza made a terrific move at the top of the box and found Morris open. Morris drew the goalkeeper and hit Tom Fielding, who fired a shot that was stopped by a Duke defender.

In the 72nd minute, Fielding got behind the Blue Devil backline and had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. His line drive hit the Duke keeper squarely in the face, keeping the contest scoreless.

The teams headed to overtime, as both sides dealt with several injury stoppages in the extra session. The hosts had the best chance in OT, as a free kick went wide midway through the frame.

McGlynn struck a shot from 30 yards out in the second overtime, but the Duke keeper punched the ball over the post. From there, Acton-Petronotis played the hero and sent the Blue Devils home with a loss.

Kasim finished with six saves for his second shutout of the fall.

The Redhawks return home next weekend, hosting Oregon State on Friday night and Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon at Championship Field.
