SEATTLE – Seattle University men's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 14 Oregon State on Friday night. Akili Kasim made three saves in the non-conference match at Championship Field.

"This was a tough loss," said SU Coach Pete Fewing. "Give Oregon State credit for taking advantage. We weren't sharp tonight, but I liked our intensity after going down 2-0. If we could play like that for 90 minutes, I think we would like the result."

The first half was lackluster for both sides, with neither offense able to create much in the way of dangerous opportunities. SU (3-2-0) notched two shots late in the first half, as Tom Fielding and James Morris had the best looks of the frame. The visitors later hit the goalpost as the teams went to halftime deadlocked at 0.

The Beavers quickly struck for two goals in the early going of the second half, taking control of the match. In the 63rd minute, the Redhawks earned a corner kick. Peter Kingston swung in a line drive towards the near post that an OSU defender headed in for an own goal, cutting the visitors' margin in half.

The intensity only ramped up from there, as the teams claimed five yellow cards over a 10-minute span. Seattle U worked in search of the equalizer, challenging the OSU backline repeatedly, but the hosts were unable to threaten deep in the Beaver end.

The Redhawks host Dartmouth on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Championship Field.
