CORVALLIS – Seattle University women's soccer fell, 1-0, at Oregon State Thursday night. SU's Julie Woodward coached her 500th career match in the season opener at Paul Lorenz Field.

Following an even first half-hour, the Beavers struck with the game's first goal late in the first half, as a strong build-up led to an OSU goal in the 38th minute.

In the second half, the teams picked up the pace, with each side creating chances that challenged the opposition. Leahi Manthei found herself with room in the box and connected on a strong shot in the 56th minute, but Oregon State's Bridgette Skiba was on the spot to keep it a one-goal difference.

The hosts held a 17-3 advantage in shots, as Jessica Berlin made three saves in her SU debut in net.

Berlin was one of six players to make their first appearance for the Redhawks on Thursday. Jourdyn Curran and Kait Raffensperger joined Berlin the starting lineup, while Hailee Rasmussen, Daniella Smathers, and Jolie St Louis subbed in for SU.

Woodward is one of 10 active Division I coaches to coach 500 career games while only serving as head coach at one school. She has 318 career victories at Seattle U.

The Redhawks head to Portland State as they continue their four-game road trip to open the fall. The non-conference match is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
