SEATTLE – Seattle University softball cruised to a 3-0 win over California Baptist on Saturday afternoon. Carley Nance pitched a complete-game two-hitter in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) game at sunny Logan Field.

Nance was dominant Saturday, as a nine-pitch walk in the second inning was her lone blemish through five frames. She retired 12 straight Lancers in the middle of the contest. CBU finally found a hit in the sixth, but Nance closed out the day with a shutout as SU (19-17, 6-3 WAC) won its third straight WAC series to open league play.

Bailey Thompson singled to begin a two-out rally in the first. Madison Cathcart worked to a full count and then drove a high flyball that hit the scoreboard in right field for a 2-0 lead.

Stephanie Merwin led off the second with a walk. With one out, Cherise Silvan hit a bunt single. Olivia Viggiano followed with an RBI single through the left side, as Merwin hustled home ahead of the throw for a 3-0 margin.

Nance threw all seven innings, giving up just two hits and a walk. She struck out a pair of batters.

Thompson wrapped up her big weekend with another two-hit day, adding a run. Silvan tallied two hits, while Nance added a single to terrific effort in the circle.

The Redhawks head to Tarleton State for a three-game WAC series next weekend.
