LAS VEGAS – Seattle University men's soccer scored three unanswered goals to knock off UNLV, 3-1, in the first round of the 2021 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament Tuesday at Johann Memorial Field. Hal Uderitz, Munier Hussen, and James Morris each scored for the Redhawks.

With the win, Seattle U (6-3-1) advances to take on top-seeded and unbeaten Grand Canyon in a semifinal match on Thursday. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. at Johann Memorial Field.

"You have to give credit to the players," said Coach Pete Fewing. "We defended more than we normally do and then we put away our chances when we had them. I'm really proud of our guys."

The victory also marked the 100th of Fewing's second tenure at SU.

UNLV scored first, getting on the board with a penalty-kick goal in the 23rd minute. Less than two minutes, Seattle U equalized. Yoann Assoumin found himself with room in the final third. He passed to Morris near the top of the box. Morris dribbled and fired a line drive that hit the crossbar. The rebound came to Uderitz, who calmly deposited the loose ball into the back of the net.

UNLV had possession in its favor for the rest of the half, but SU held on as the teams reached halftime even at 1.

In the 55th minute, Alex Acton-Petronotis created a chance for the Redhawks. He dribbled in and tried a shot that got redirected to Hussen. The freshman made a nifty move to keep possession and curled in a shot over the diving UNLV goalkeeper from 18 yards out for a 2-1 lead.

Assoumin was on the spot to intercept an errant Rebel pass at midfield and dished ahead to Morris. The forward took his space and sprinted downfield, eventually dribbling around the UNLV goalkeeper and finishing for a 3-1 margin in the 79th minute.

Kasim finished with eight saves to match his season high, also against UNLV.
