SEATTLE — Seattle U baseball suffered a tough luck decision on Sunday, falling to Tarleton 3-0 in the finale, and dropping the Western Athletic Conference series in the process.
The Redhawks (10-16, 4-8 WAC) were outhit, 6-3, while leaving six runners stranded, including three in scoring position. Senior Connor O'Brien (2-4) accounted for two hits, as he singled in the second and ninth, while fifth-year senior Chase Wells (1-3) doubled to lead of the third.
Seattle U freshman Riley Sinclair (0-3) was charged with the loss. In spite of the decision, the right-hander put together a solid performance as he struck out four and scattered three hits over seven innings.
Sinclair opened the game strong with a 1-2-3 frame in the first, before stranding two Texan runners in the second. After surrendering an unearned run in the third, he went on to retire the next six batters faced.
In the fifth, Tarleton (12-22, 5-11 WAC) posted two runners on base but was again left empty-handed as Sinclair worked his way out of the jam. He ended his day by retiring six of the last seven batters faced.
Still trailing 1-0, Seattle U called on Peter Chronowski from the bullpen to take over in the eighth. The reliever however had a tough outing as he conceded two runs on two hits. Brady Liddle then recorded the inning's final out, before working a 1-2-3 frame in the ninth with two strikeouts.
Seattle U will resume action next week as it begins an eight-game road trip by visiting defeating WAC champion, Sacramento State, Apr. 16-18.
