LEWISTON, Idaho - Seattle U men's tennis finished out their weekend trip to Lewiston with a 5-2 victory as they took on Lewis-Clark State in the LCSC Tennis Center on Sunday. Seattle U dominated in the doubles matches and continued that strong performance into singles play, resulting in 4 singles wins.
The Redhawks came out strong by sweeping the doubles matches. Senior Eli Ogilvy and freshman Julian Worn had the best doubles performance for Seattle U, winning 6-3 against Itaru Kikuchi and William Bruchard. Freshman Mats Krause and senior Lucas Cerbelli (6-4) teamed up for the first time this season against Gunnar Harlan and Andre Duplessis, while senior Emilio Monroy and junior Billy Givens-Jensen (7-6 (7-5)) finished off the sweep against Marcus Gavelin and Andy Wu.
Worn (6-2, 6-2) started off the run of victories in singles play when he defeated Kikuchi and Cerbelli (6-4, 6-2) followed him up with his first victory of the season against Bruchard. Clinching the winning point for the Redhawks was sophomore Lars Schmassmann with a final score of 7-5, 6-4 against Duplessis, while Krause (6-1, 7-6, 6-2) had the final singles win of the afternoon against Harlan. Making their season debut in this match were junior Juan Pablo Jaramillo (1-6, 4-6) and freshman George Miller (6-7, 4-6) who both battled hard but suffered defeat to Wu and Gavelin respectively.
"The whole team showed a lot of courage and unity in our victory today," said Assistant Coach Sonam Phuntsok.
The Redhawks' next match will be a home matchup with Montana State at 7:45 p.m. on Mar. 12.
