SPOKANE, Wash. - Seattle U women's tennis took part in their second match of the weekend and first of two in Spokane when they matched up against Gonzaga at the Stevens Center on Saturday. the 7-3 Bulldogs came out strong and never let up, winning in a clinch-shortened, 4-0, match on their home courts.
Gonzaga started the match by claiming the doubles point. Juniors Jillian Rasmussen and Alisa Sabotic (2-6) paired up against Taylor Gruber and Kianna Oda, while fellow junior Hannah Grossman and sophomore Jade Lancaster (1-6) matched up against Kate Ketels and Haruna Tsuruta.
In singles play, senior Peggy Rooke (2-6, 0-6) battled against Ketels, while Grossman (1-6, 1-6) matched up against Tsuruta and Rasmussen (0-6, 0-6) faced off against Gruber. Singles play finished after three matches, as Gonzaga had clinched the team win.
"Playing Gonzaga is always a tough test as they are a really strong team," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander. "This was a great opportunity for us to compete at a high level and it was great to see our players take advantage of that and play hard."
The Redhawks will play once more in Spokane on Sunday when they take on Idaho at 10 a.m. in the Stevens Center.
