CHENEY, Wash. - Seattle U women's tennis began their busy weekend on Friday with a trip to the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse for a matchup against Eastern Washington. Senior Peggy Rooke was the star of the show for the Redhawks, winning both her singles and doubles matchups, however, this wasn't enough as the Eagles triumphed in a 5-2 victory.

Rooke teamed up with junior Hannah Grossman (6-3) for Seattle U's lone doubles win of the evening, defeating Jennifer Kida and Scout Mathews. Senior Michelle Bader and sophomore Jade Lancaster (3-6) faced off against Rylee Braeden and Zoey Nelson, while juniors Jillian Rasmussen and Martina Asciuto (2-6) paired up against Renata Gabuzyan and Louise Waite.

Rooke continued her strong performance into singles play as she defeated Mathews in a hard fought 7-5, 6-3 win, while Lancaster (6-3, 6-4) earned her first singles victory of the season by defeating Nelson. Grossman (2-6, 7-5, 0-6) was the next Redhawk closest to victory as she pushed Waite to three sets, while junior Alisa Sabotic (1-6, 3-6) put together a competitive second set after starting off the match slow. Rounding out the matches for the Redhawks are Rasmussen (1-6, 0-6) and junior Aranza Alvarez Sanabria (0-6, 0-6) who matched up against Gabuzyan and Yasmin Mansouri respectively.

"We had a great opportunity to win tonight but we just came up a little short," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander."We have two more chances to compete this weekend and the whole team is looking forward to putting their best effort forward."

The Redhawks are back in action on Saturday as they head to the Stevens Center in Spokane for a matchup with Gonzaga at 5 p.m.
