LEWISTON, Idaho - Seattle U men's tennis competed in their first doubleheader of the 2021 season when it took on Boise State and Idaho at the LCSC Tennis Center on Saturday. Their first matchup was against Boise State who came out hot and did not let up, winning in a 7-0 sweep.

The 6-1 Broncos started the match by claiming the doubles point. Senior Eli Ogilvy teamed up with junior Billy Givens-Jensen (3-6) against Luka Soskic and Lukas Ridemar, while seniors Emilio Monroy and Lucas Cerbelli (1-6) faced off against Wyatt Demulling and Lawrence Sciglitano.

In singles play, Ogilvy (3-6, 6-4, 4-6) and Cerbelli (6-4, 1-6, 3-6) were the closest Redhawks to victory as they forced their opponents Blake Bayldon and Kyryll Kryvchun to a third set. Sophomore Lars Schmassmann and freshman Mats Krause suffered identical results of 2-6, 4-6 against Ridemar and Michael Bott. Rounding out the singles matches for the Redhawks are freshman Julian Worn (0-6, 4-6) and Monroy (4-6 1-6) who battled against Simon Arca Costas and Demulling.

The Redhawks did not have much time to rest as they matched up with Idaho shortly after. Much like the Broncos, the Vandals came out strong and handed Seattle U an identical 7-0 result.

Krause and Worn (2-6) paired up to take on Francisco Bascon and Matteo Masala, while Ogilvy and Givens-Jensen (3-6) suffered the same result as their Boise State matchup against Althaf Dhaifullah and Bruno Casino. Cerbelli and Monroy put together the best doubles performance of the evening as they fell 4-6 against Alex Asenov and Alejandro Salvador Civera.

Worn (3-6, 6-1, 1-6) was the the closest Redhawk to pulling out a victory as he forced Dhaifullah to a third set, while Ogilvy (2-6, 6-7 (8-10)) and Cerbelli (2-6, 6-7 (5-7)) both started off slow but had chances to take it to three sets against opponents Bascon and Casino. Schmassmann (2-6, 0-6) faced off against Salvador Civera, while Givens-Jensen (3-6, 2-6) battled against Vivek Ramesh and Krause (1-6, 4-6) put together a competitive second set against Matteo Masala after starting the match off slow.

"Having a doubleheader was a good test of our physical and mental strength," said Assistant Coach Sonam Phuntsok. "We started slow in both of our doubles matchups but we were able to put together some strong performances in the singles matches."

The Redhawks' next match will be their last one of the weekend in the LCSC Tennis Center as they take on Lewis-Clark State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
