RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Seattle University men's soccer battled at California Baptist Wednesday afternoon, but the Lancers came away with a 1-0 decision in a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) game at Orange County Great Park.

Both teams had chances in the first half, but the defenses did enough to keep the contest scoreless through 45 minutes. Zach Nelson made an early save and then came up with a key stop on a CBU breakaway later in the frame. The hosts hit the post on a shot late in the half.

On the other end, Noe Meza and Jesse Ortiz each claimed opportunities, but the Lancers kept the ball out of the net. SU compiled four corner kicks in the period.

Nelson recorded three saves in the second half, doing what he could to keep the match even. In the 68th minute, the hosts scored to go up, 1-0.

Seattle U worked for a tying goal as time wore on, but CBU held on for the WAC win.

Nelson, making his first start as a Redhawk, finished with six saves.

The Redhawks return home for their final match of the season at Championship Field on Monday, April 5. Grand Canyon visits for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
