BEAVERTON, Ore. - Seattle U men's tennis played its first of two matches in Oregon this weekend on Friday when it traveled to Beaverton, Ore., to matchup with Portland State at the Babette Horenstein Tennis Center. Portland State came out strong and never let up, winning 6-1 on their own courts. Seattle U's lone point on the day came from Freshman Julian Worn (2-6, 6-7, 7-8 (8-6)) as he won a hard fought match with Nikola Dimitrijevic.

The Vikings opened the day by claiming the doubles point. Seniors Eli Ogilvy and Lucas Cerbelli (6-7 (4-7)) were the closest to winning their doubles match as they pushed Tommy Edwards and Matteo Fortini to a tiebreaker. Freshman Julian Worn and Mats Krause teamed up against Sam Roberts and Tommy Hsu, falling 1-6, while senior Emilio Monroy and junior Billy Givens-Jensen suffered the same result against Dimitrijevic and Bryan Husin.

Cerbelli (2-6, 6-3, 2-6) was the next closest Redhawk to winning their singles match as he pushed Edwards to a third set. Ogilvy (2-6, 6-7 (6-8)) and Krause (3-6, 6-7 (3-7)) almost took their matches to a third set as they forced a tiebreaker against Fortini and Nils Putat, while sophomore Lars Schmassmann (1-6, 4-6) put together a competitive second set after starting off slow. Rounding out the participants for Seattle U is Monroy (2-6, 1-6) who matched up against Hsu.

"Our slow start was difficult to recover from in this match," said Assistant Coach Sonam Phuntsok. "We put our best effort out there but were beaten by a very well coached Portland State team. We look forward to our match with Oregon tomorrow."

The Redhawks will be back in action on Saturday at 11 a.m. as they take on Oregon at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene, Ore.
