SEATTLE – Seattle University men's soccer played to a 1-1 draw with UNLV on Saturday afternoon. Habib Barry scored for SU in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) match at Championship Field

The visitors scored in the opening minutes. A corner kick by Bailey Leatherman found its way to the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. SU looked to tie it up, but UNLV stymied the Redhawks at every turn. The hosts got going as the half continued, earning corner kicks and pressuring the Rebel backline, but UNLV came up with enough plays to keep a 1-0 edge at halftime.

The Redhawks got rolling in the second half, pounding the Rebels with a wide attacking plan. In the 84th minute, SU finally struck. Jesse Ortiz collected a loose ball and found Noe Meza, who sprinted down the right side and crossed to Barry at the left post. Barry elevated and headed in the equalizer for his first goal of the year.

In overtime, UNLV got the better of the first period, controlling possession and peppering Akili Kasim. The hosts were up to the task, though, sending the match to another OT. Both teams found opportunities late, but the defenses did enough to force the tie.

Kasim finished with eight saves in the game.

The Redhawks hit the road for a WAC contest at Dixie State on Saturday, March 6.
