TEMPE, Ariz. – Madison Cathcart of Seattle University softball became the program's all-time RBI leader as the Redhawks dropped a pair of games at the Kajikawa Classic Saturday afternoon. SU fell, 4-3, to BYU and 10-1 in five innings to Utah.

Against BYU, Cathcart homered in the first inning. The senior became SU's career RBI leader with the blast, giving her 163 as a Redhawk. She tied Jane Purdy for the all-time mark with a sac fly yesterday.

The Cougars answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Shi Smith settled in and retired seven in a row as the game rolled on. SU made its move in the fourth, as Carley Nance drew a one-out walk. With two down, Hannah Sasaski, on as a pinch-runner, stole second and then advanced to third on an error. Cherise Silvan doubled her in to tie it. Kamryn Coleman followed with an RBI single to right, giving the Redhawks a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, BYU got two runners aboard, but Smith escaped trouble. The next frame, the Cougars hit a tying homer. Stefanie Madrigal took over in relief and induced a groundout to short to move the game to the sixth inning.

SU couldn't get anything going in the sixth. Madrigal worked around a leadoff single to keep the scored deadlocked heading to the seventh.

After a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, Madrigal looked to force extra innings with the Cougars. Two singles and a stolen base put BYU on the brink and the Cougars found the winning run on a fielder's choice to end the game.

Utah scored five runs in the first inning to grab control early over the Redhawks. It added a run in the second, three more in the third, and another in the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, Mekenzie Madokoro hit a pinch-hit single and Coleman followed with a double down the leftfield line to drive her in.

Cathcart doubled in the first inning, giving her 51 in her SU career.

The Redhawks close out action in Tempe tomorrow with a single game against Utah. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m.
